So as a heads up, I'm a network person, who just happens to wear a sysadmin hat once in a blue moon. So anyways, we have our WSUS server running along just fine, but we are running out of space on the HDD in our SAN.What I have done in the past is ran the Server Cleanup Wizard.
Wsus File Location
Usually picking Unneeded update files, expired updates, and superseded updates. That has worked fine and dandy, but I have noticed that over the course of a month it frees up less and less space. So a week ago I decide to use the wizard again and select Unused updates and update revisions. This takes nearly a day to complete, and afterwards I ran the previous 3 cleanups as well.My issue is that the unused updates and update revisions clears no space on the HDD. I just did it again today to see if maybe it was a fluke, it tells me: 73 unused updates deleted, and 2712 unused update revisions deleted. But no extra space on the HDD occurs. I don't know if I'm just missing something simple, or if there is something else I need to run.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Have you been through the product selections, category types etc to ensure that you have what you actually need selected? Do you have the auto approve option on, or do you approve on demand? If you have been using auto approve then you probably have a lot of updates that are simply not required (but not recognised as such by WSUS, because they might be required in the future). It might be time to remove WSUS and the database and reinstall it, then only approve updates that are actually required by your machines.
That is the way to keep the WSUS data store lean.
Problem – WSUS Clients failing to download updates (80244019)Clients were unable to download updates from our internal WSUS server, the download failed with error 80244019 however the same clients could download the updates fine directly from Microsoft.CauseA couple of weeks ago a technician had declined a large amount of active needed updates and run the server cleanup tool, when this was discovered the WSUS SQL Database was restored giving the appearance that everything was back to normal however the server cleanup wizard had removed the files. So the database said the updates were approved and when client tryed to download the update the WSUS server was unable to deliver the file as it no longer existed resulting in error 80244019. Resolution. Locally on the WSUS server open a command prompt. Navigate to where WSUS is installed on a 32-bit server this is generally under C:Program FilesUpdate ServicesTools.
Wsusutil.exe Reset
Run wsusutil resetThe WSUS will now go down and when it comes up it will start re-downloading the update files, this maybe be a fairly large download. LinksI found this solution in a PDF posted by Solar Winds, the below is a link to the PDF which has some good WSUS info the PDF is also attached.df.
